Bubblews versus Hubpages

Updated on May 31, 2016

If you're an online writer, then certainly Hubpages is a great way to make money online. However, there are many other websites out there making tools and websites available to people to be able to make money - Bubblews is one of the latest - and this brings in the question of which is best: in the Bubblews -v- Hubpages wars?

UPDATE: Bubblews ended up disappearing up their own orifice and closed down.

The simple answer to this is that, if you want to make money online then you have to choose your websites carefully. On the other hand, you don't want to feel you missed the boat. You need to try out 2-3 websites where you are paid for contributing and see which one works for you.

Bubblews is the "latest big thing" and it's getting a lot of Internet buzz, with great feedback from people declaring fabulous results in the short-term, and a few disgruntled people sayng they struggle to get feedback from the company, but you always get those. I was paid promptly, to date, for every claim made.

With Bubblews, the rule seems to be:cash out often. You can make the first $25 in about 10 days, so it's a quick learning curve at least! After that, the $26s just keep coming faster. You should be able to make your second within a week - and still it gets faster. In the bubblews versus hubpages discussion, you can certainly get paid a lot quicker with Bubblews and you receive the money much faster.

Current Situation:

When I started writing at Bubblews and started this Bubblews versus Hubpages review and comparison there were some posts that said people weren't being paid.

But, to do it justice, I had to try. So, a few months on, what is the current situation? This covers early August to early October:

EARNT: $690

PAID/BANKED: $385

OVERDUE: $300

3 CLAIMS PER WEEK::I am now claiming 3x a week - you have to wait 3-5 days before you hear anything

With so much overdue and being claimed, is it worth it? YES - I've got money fast, that I'd have not got elsewhere in the timeframe. I needed Bread Today, not Jam Tomorrow.

I continued posting, in the belief the payments will all end up being paid OK. On 25 October 2013 I made my last post. With nearly $250 unpaid, nearly half, I stopped..

2014 Bubblews Review Update:

At the time of writing, 28 February 2014, I haven't had any new payment problems since early November.

All payments are on time/up to date in 2014.

Earnings from 1 January to 28 February 2014 are: $724

However - I am now backing off .... as it takes too long to earn the money, it's relentless effort to achieve redeeming every 3-4 days .... there are better ways of milking this donkey - and my next plan is to explore how to earn the money without the relentless effort.

Bubblews -v- Hubpages: Revenue Share

Both Bubblews and Hubpages work on what is called a Revenue Sharing System. This means that the websites make money, through advertising (known as monetization) and they share this income with their writers through the Google Adsense advertising program and through In-house advertising programs.

When you join, you input your Google Adsense ID, eBay affiliate ID and Amazon.com Associate IDs into your profile and 60% of the time your page is read it will be your ID that is linked, so any clicks/purchases are attributed to your account.

What do Bubblews and Hubpages Pay You For?

Revenue can be shared by writers' sites like Bubblews and Hubpages through a variety of methods. But you need to think about everything that you do on a site and whether you get paid for it. Some people join and just want to participate in the forums, while others are prolific producers of high quality content on a daily or weekly basis.

  • Hubpages doesn't pay you for the forums interactions you make, just for the articles you write and the content of friends you introduce (10% of impressions are yours).
  • Bubblews says it pays "for EVERY view, comment, like and social media shares for EVERY post that you EVER write on bubblews."

This model can mean that Bubblews becomes overloaded with "non contributors", which, over time, might be its downfall, but this model does spread the word fast and wide, bringing traffic to the site.

Paid for Articles:

Bubblews pays you a 50% revenue share for your articles and content. Hubpages pays you 60% revenue share for your articles and content.

Paid for Comments:

Bubblews pays you for every comment you RECEIVE on your posts - AND - for every time you comment in response to comments received on your own posts. You are not paid for comments you make on other people's posts.

Paid for Likes and Social Media Sharing

Bubblews pays you for the likes and for social media sharing. Hubpages doesn't.

Refer a Friend

Both sites pay you for telling your friends, if they sign up and contribute. Bubble's model of paying members for commenting etc means your referrals might be more likely to contribute and generate a referral income, on the other hand it might just attract less determined people, who simply drop off.

The Hubpages Refer a Friend model means your IDs (Adsense, eBay, Amazon) are on the introduced member's content 10% of the time - so you get 10% of their impressions. These 10% are from the Hubpages' portion of the revenue sharing, meaning the 60:40 split is actually 60% to the writer, 30% goes to Hubpages, 10% goes to the referrer.

Who Pays You? Where Does the Money Come From?

With Hubpages you're paid direct by Amazon.com and Google where you've earnt money through their programs. If you are in the Hubpages advertising program (which includes an ebay option), then Hubpages pay you direct via Paypal once you've reached $50. Stats are updated daily - payouts are at the end of the month, following the month in which the money was earnt.

With Bubblews they pay you directly via Paypal, a check, a Vsia gift card - or you can choose for them to buy you something.

Can You Use Affiliate Links on Hubpages or Bubblews?

If you are an affiliate, then you know that you can make good money from companies who pay you to drive buyers to their websites. To do this you sign up as an affiliate, obtain an affiliate ID/link and then use that online. The same applies to referral links.

  • Hubpages allows you to use affiliate links. There are limitations, e.g. you can't link to any Clickbank products, or Infusionsoft products. If you are writing good content then you can place up to two links to any external website, which could be affiliate links. This is OK and legal.
  • Bubblews does not allow you to use affiliate links. The Bubblews TOS, item 8, states: "....do not post links to places where you financially gain or for commercial purpose. .... you are not allowed to post Affiliate links and Referral links of other websites."

Which is Easiest?

Well - we all like an easy route, so you're probably wondering which is the easiest. Being the easiest doesn't mean something is better. It's easier to earn $1/year than it is to earn $1,000,000 - but which would you rather do?

  • Hubpages is more difficult to get up to speed with - that is because it is a high quality, well-formed system that has been developing, growing and improving for many years. Its writers are professionals and keen writers - people who care about the quality of their writing.
  • Bubblews is a great entry point site for people who are new to writing and just getting started, so unsure of how earning money online could work. It's easier, almost instant, to use, with very little to learn or worry about.

Another way to judge "easy" is how much you have to write. Both systems have minimum word counts:

  • Hubpages will warn you that your content isn't long enough, usually round about 500 words.
  • Bubblews requires you to write at least 400 characters, so about 80 words.

However - the longer the article, the longer the content, the better it is likely to perform. It's worth while only writing about subjects that you can write 800+ words about! Some of my articles are 2000-3000 words long. The page you are currently reading is over 1500 words. So try to write at least half of what this page is showing you!

Easier Doesn't Mean Better

Easier doesn't mean better - it just means easier. If you are a writer who cares about the quality of your writing, then choose Hubpages. If you are new and trying things out, try Bubblews.

What Does a Bubblews Article Look Like?

You just need one photo and some words.

It's much faster, almost instant, to write a quick Bubblews article, rather than the time it takes to formulate, structure and lay out a hub, with all its associated module types.

Once you've signed up with Bubblews, you just need to:

  • Click the yellow SUBMIT button near the top
  • Type a title
  • Choose a category
  • Upload a photo, photos will attract people, so pretty essential.
  • Type ..... and it's not many words.

Making Your Choice

You need to look at how motivated you are in order to choose between Hubpages or Bubble. Your level of participation will determine your outcome/earnings.

  • If you are more interested in writing, then join Hubpages first, then join Bubble.
  • If you are more interested in chatting in forums and commenting, then join Bubble first then join Bubble.

Over the years, Hubpages have proven themselves to be a high quality website, where your time and effort investment have been protected. There are many sites like Bubble out there and there will be more in the future - unfortunately only time tells which are survivors and which are duds.

What Do You Need to Do To Join Hubpages or Bubblews?

Joining both Hubpages and Bubblews is free. There are never any fees or charges for you to pay. This makes both of them a legitimate way to try to earn money onlne.

There is a simple signup process with both, taking you just a few minutes - and after that you are then a full member, for as long as you wish to be.

I've been a member of Hubpages for 6 years and it's done me well. I am only just embarking on my Bubblews journey as I think it is important to break out of your comfort zone and try new things occasionally.

To Join Hubpages:

  • Create yourself a username.
  • Enter your email address, a password and fill out a Captcha form.

  • Write an article title and start writing. Don't worry too much about this being "perfect" as you don't have to publish it immediately - and, you can make changes forever - in fact it's a good idea to tweak your articles as you gain more knowledge and skills in layout.

Input your IDs

If you already have a Google Adsense account, ebay partner account, or Amazon.com Associates ID, you can input these into your profile. There is, additionally, an in-house Hubpages program you can choose to join.

If you do not have any of these, you can find out in the forums how to apply for/get each of these IDs. These IDs are key to you making money with Hubpages, so you will need to register with those programs in order to be paid.

UPDATE 10: 11th redemption imminent, 2 days after the 10th. First $12 day reached.

UPDATE 11: I've made one post that's earning $12/hour. It's been running for 7 hours, first two were quiet, then it took off. It's organic/search traffic coming to it. This might become a $100 post that took me 10 minutes to write.

Bubblews versus Hubpages

At the time of writing, BubbleWS is outperforming Hubpages for income, for ease of use and for speed of payout.
